Earlier today, I was informed of yet another fun food-oriented event in our great city: the fourth annual Walker’s Point Food Crawl.
Starting at noon on Saturday, May 30th at Steny’s Tavern, registered attendees of the food crawl will be unleashed onto the food-centric Walker’s Point neighborhood and its many fine restaurants, for three hours of eating and drinking at some of Milwaukee’s best new places to eat. The event is hosted by MKEfoodies.com, Milwaukee Food & City Tours, and OnMilwaukee.com, and runs from 12:00-3:00pm, though VIP passes are available which allow early access to the event at 11:00am, as well as other goodies.Tickets are available with the following prices:
- Silver Plate (seven small plates) – $50
- VIP Silver Plate – $60
- Gold Plate (12 small plates) – $80
- VIP Gold Plate – $90
Note: Plates can be divided among several people; you’re not required to buy one ticket per person. VIP perks include early entry, a “swag bag” filled with offers and promotions, and access for two to the Bloody Mary Happy Hour. Keep in mind, though, that admission to the event is capped; only 50 VIP tickets at each level are available.
The restaurants participating in the event are:
- Black Sheep
- Blue Jacket
- c. 1880
- Central Standard Craft Distillery
- Chez Jacques
- Clock Shadow Creamery
- Indulgence Chocolatiers
- Purple Door Ice Cream
- Screaming Tuna Sushi & Asian Bistro
- Steny’s Tavern
- Wayward Kitchen Co.
- Zak’s Cafe Milwaukee
While I’m probably not going to attend the event myself, I encourage anyone who is able to go (and willing to pay the rather hefty ticket price) to check it out. Walker’s Point has seen a dramatic revitalization in the past decade, moving slowly but steadily from a working-class neighborhood with heavy Latino and LGBT presence to one of the most talked-about “new neighborhoods” of Milwaukee. Situated directly south of the Menomonee River confluence and the Harley-Davidson world headquarters, right outside the Downtown/Westown area, the neighborhood is quickly catching up to the Third Ward, Riverwest, and Bay View as a haven for foodies, and a great place to open a restaurant.
